Hanyang University will host the Homeless World Cup on December 21st. This event is the first of its kind in Asia, making it a significant occasion with Hanyang University as the host. We spoke with Kim Eun-jeong, the Head of the Social Service Team, to discuss the Homeless World Cup.

Those who are unable to secure one of the most fundamental human rights, the right to housing, are referred to as "homeless." Homeless individuals are exposed to various risks in the gaps of housing security and are considered to be facing a serious issue. What are the causes and solutions for homelessness, which has emerged as a social problem? We spoke with Professor Woo Ah-young of the Graduate School of Urban Studies to hear her views on the reasons for homelessness and potential solutions.

Homeless World Cup: Into the Heart of the Vibrant Opening Ceremony.

On December 21st, the 2024 Seoul Homeless World Cup kicked off at the main stadium of Hanyang University. The Homeless World Cup is a global football tournament where homeless individuals aged 15 and older, who lack proper housing, compete representing their countries. This year, 56 teams (40 men's teams and 16 women's teams) from 38 countries participated. This tournament is particularly significant as it marks the first Homeless World Cup held in Asia, with Hanyang University serving as the host.

The 'Pass for Home' Challenge is being held to ensure the successful hosting of the Seoul 2024 Homeless World Cup, the first of its kind in Asia. The challenge aims to convey the message that everyone should be able to dream of a better life within the space of a home, while raising public awareness about the issue of housing insecurity.
